How much clearance does my HVAC ''intake'' register need

I am installing a built-in entertainment center near a ceiling mounted HVAC

intake register.The entertainment center unit will be built up to within 12

inches of the ceiling mounted register (with no obstructions on the left or

right).I am concerned that l might be restricting air flow and ruin my HVAC

problem).Any idea what the minimum clearance requirements are for air

light a cigarette,turn on the furnace/ air conditioner fan and

hold the cig about where the top of the ent. center will end up. if the

smoke gets lazily sucked into the return, no big deal. if the return acts

like it wants to suck in you hand, then you should get a shorter ent.

The return register if ceiling mounted dosent require much

clearance. 12'' in should be ok. If it were a wall mounted return a min of

36 in is usually required for propoer air intake flow. Like you cant put a
